About GW-CEEE

The mission of The George Washington University Center for Equity and Excellence in Education (GW-CEEE) is to advance education reform so that all students achieve high standards. GW-CEEE provides evidence-based technical assistance and professional development and conducts research and evaluation studies for state education agencies, local education agencies, and various offices of the U.S. Department of Education to facilitate education reform and school improvement initiatives. GW-CEEE was established in October 1991 and chartered by The George Washington University (GW) in January 1994.

GW-CEEE operates under the umbrella of GW's Institute for Education Policy Studies (IEPS) within GW's Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) and has access to GW Resources.

The GW-CEEE team of technical assistance providers, researchers, and other specialists have the knowledge, skills, and ability to help educators in states, districts, and schools use research to inform practice. The GW-CEEE team works in partnership with a broad range of state and local administrators and practitioners committed to improving high poverty, low performing schools. The GW-CEEE team possesses the national policy perspective needed to support school improvement strategies responsive to federal education priorities.

Dr. Charlene Rivera directs GW-CEEE. A research professor and nationally recognized education researcher, Dr. Rivera is known for work that addresses English language learners. Her research focuses on state assessment policies and practices, accommodations, accountability, national standards, program evaluation and reporting, and leadership development.
